What is an ascending and descending system used for?
An ascending and descending system lets a worker climb up or lower down a fixed rope safely, typically for rope access, tower work, confined-space entry and rescue. It combines ascenders or rope clamps for climbing with a controlled descender for lowering, always backed by a separate fall-arrest device on an independent second line.
Which standards apply to ascenders and descenders?
Rope-access ascenders and descenders are generally certified to EN 567 for rope clamps, EN 12841 for rope-adjustment devices, and EN 341 for descenders used in rescue.
