When does a workplace need an emergency safety shower and eyewash?

A combination safety shower and eyewash is required wherever workers handle corrosives, acids, alkalis or hazardous chemicals that can injure skin or eyes. Per ANSI Z358.1 guidance, the unit must be within 10 seconds' unobstructed travel of the hazard, on the same level. Install them in labs, plating shops, battery rooms and chemical storage areas.

What flow and duration must an emergency safety shower deliver?

Per ANSI Z358.1, a drench shower should deliver at least 75.7 litres per minute, and an eyewash about 1.5 litres per minute, both for a continuous 15-minute flush. Water should be tepid, roughly 16 to 38 degrees Celsius. The 15-minute duration allows thorough decontamination while emergency medical help is summoned.

How often should safety showers and eyewash stations be tested?

Plumbed eyewash and shower units should be activated weekly to clear sediment and confirm flow, with a full inspection at least annually. Self-contained or portable units need fluid changes per the maker's schedule. Weekly testing prevents stagnant water and biological growth, and verifies the valve stays open hands-free once actuated during an emergency.

Can you supply and advise on safety showers for a whole plant?

Yes, we supply emergency safety showers, eyewash stations and combination units across India, and can advise on placement per your hazard layout. Share your process areas, water supply and quantity for a quotation. We stock plumbed and portable options, plus accessories like alarms, freeze protection and dust caps to keep stations service-ready.
