What voltage classes do electrical insulating gloves come in?

Electrical insulating gloves are grouped by class under IEC 60903 and equivalent IS ratings, from Class 00 and 0 for low voltage up to Classes 1, 2, 3 and 4 for higher voltages. Each class has a defined maximum use voltage and proof-test level. Select the class rated above your working voltage, never at or below it.

How often must electrical gloves be tested?

Insulating gloves must be periodically dielectric tested, commonly every six months per widely used practice, and inspected before every use. Retesting confirms the rubber still withstands its rated voltage. Record test dates on each pair and remove any glove that fails, is out of test date, or shows damage. Follow your local electrical safety rules for exact intervals.

Why are leather protectors worn over electrical gloves?

Leather protector gloves are worn over rubber insulating gloves to shield them from cuts, abrasion and punctures that would destroy their dielectric protection. The rubber provides the electrical insulation while the leather guards its integrity during handling. Never use insulating gloves for live work without protectors unless the glove is specifically approved for use without them.

How should electrical insulating gloves be inspected before use?

Before each use, visually check for cuts, cracks, ozone damage, embedded objects and swelling, then air-test by rolling the cuff to trap air and watching for leaks. Any defect means the glove is removed from service immediately. Store gloves in their bag, away from heat, sunlight and chemicals, and keep them within their valid test date.
